Sandro Chia deed in 1984 een gouden zet door zich te vestigen in het toentertijd vervallen Castello Romitorio. Het castello bevindt zich in het relatief koele noordwesten van Montalcino. Het gebied kent een rijke biodiversiteit: de wijngaarden worden omringd door bossen, olijfbomen en watertjes.
